|Established in 1945, Tata Motors is India's largest automobile company and the leader in commercial vehicles in all segments, and among the top three in passenger vehicles. It had consolidated revenues of USD 32.5 billion in 2011-12. The company is the world's fourth-largest truck and bus manufacturer. Tata Motors vehicles span a range from 0.5 to 49 in tonnage.
Tata Motors has been exporting its products since 1961. Currently, the company's commercial and passenger vehicles are being marketed in several countries in Africa, the Middle East, South East Asia, South Asia, Europe and South America. It has franchisee / joint venture assembly operations in Bangladesh, Senegal and Ukraine.
Tata Motors was the first company from India's engineering sector to be listed in the New York Stock Exchange, in September 2004. Following a strategic alliance with Fiat in 2005, it has set up an industrial joint venture with Fiat Group Automobiles. In 2006, Tata Motors formed a 51:49 joint venture with the Brazil-based Marcopolo. Through its subsidiaries and associate companies, Tata Motors has operations in the UK (Jaguar Land Rover), South Korea (Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company), Thailand (Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant Company of Thailand), Spain (Hispano Carrocera) and South Africa (Tata Motors South Africa). The company’s Engineering Research Centre, established in 1966, has enabled pioneering technologies and products. It has R&D centres in Pune, Jamshedpur, Lucknow and Dharwad in India, and in South Korea, Spain, and the UK.
The company is focused on environment-friendly technologies and alternative fuels. It has developed electric and hybrid vehicles for personal and public transportation. It has also been implementing several environment-friendly technologies in manufacturing processes, significantly enhancing resource conservation.

It is a signatory to the United Nations Global Compact, and is engaged in community and social initiatives on labour and environment in compliance with the principles of the Global Compact.
